La obra del doctor Alan Ebringer

EL MÉDICO E INMUNÓLOGO Alan Ebringer abrió una nueva vía de investigación en torno a la Espondilitis, cuando en 1976 planteó por primera vez la posible relación de nuestra enfermedad con la bacteria Klebsiella Pneumoniae. Además de cuanto ha estudiado sobre la Espondilitis, ha realizado investigaciones de relevancia también sobre otras enfermedades. Aquí se ofrece una relación de los trabajos publicados por Ebringer y su grupo, así como referencias que sobre su obra han hecho en algunos medios de comunicación. Una parte sustancial de la obra publicada por Ebringer y su equipo está disponible en versión de texto completo. Junto a esas referencias, aquí aportamos toda la bibliografía disponible.

2.- Encefalopatía Espongiforme Bovina, Esclerosis Múltiple y Scrapie:
Son enfermedades a las que Ebringer ha dedicado también gran atención. En el caso del llamado Mal de las Vacas Locas, las decisiones de las autoridades sanitarias -que en Gran Bretaña se concretó en la masacre de cerca de cinco millones de vacas- se han tomado en base a la teoría mayoritaria entre la comunidad científica, construída sobre la base del llamado "prion". Frente al prion, Ebringer ha propuesto una teoría alternativa: que La Encefalopatía Espongiforme Bovina (EEB) es una enfermedad inmunológica, provocada por la bacteria Acinetobacter, no es contagiosa, y que es pobible crear un test para conocer si una vaca está enferma de antes de matarla. Siguiendo la misma lógica, para Ebringer fue un error el sacrificio masivo de bovinos. Relacionandolas con el mismo tema, Ebringer en su teoría se refiere también a la génesis de la Scrapie de las ovejas y de la Esclerosis Múltiple de los humanos.
